KILLPECKER

modern gothic dining table

the design for this dining table was born out of the idea of photographing a piece of furniture in the great sand dunes.  i wanted to incorporate bold colors that reflected the contrast between the sand and the sky, and shapes that gave structure to the wildness of the dunes.

The shape of the base reflects some design elements in the client's home, and also my desire to make a piece that leaned into strong architectural lines, simultaneously bold and restrained, with every detail  intentional & measured.  when viewed from different angles, this table reveals a unique visual change, the accents on the base looking at times like a cascading tapestry, or a set of shields at attention.  The edge-work on the top intentionally gives delicacy to a shape that could be bulky and overly masculine.

When it came time to photograph the piece, the idea of shooting in a national park became prohibitive, so we ended up at the Killpecker sand dunes near rock springs, wyoming, shooting the majority of the photos in the afternoon of the first day, then coming back before dawn to shoot some amazing drone footage at sunrise.

This piece remains one of my favorite pieces to date
